Automatic transfer switch repair
Repair or replace? Here's how we decide.
Not every failed switch needs to be replaced. You only pay for what actually fixes the problem.

Repair
Makes sense when.
- One part failed: contactor, board, solenoid, relay or lug
- The enclosure is clean and dry
- Parts are available in a reasonable time
- The switch still matches your service and generator
Replace
Makes sense when.
- Rust, water or heat damage inside the switch
- Welded or badly pitted main contacts
- Controller or parts discontinued
- You've added load or upgraded your service
- The repair costs more than half of a new switch
The middle option
Retrofit the controls.
On many commercial switches the power section outlasts the controls. A controller retrofit replaces the brains and keeps the frame and contacts, often for less than a full changeout and with a shorter outage.
Questions
Straight answers.
Can you repair it instead of replacing it?
Often, yes. Contactors, control boards, solenoids and lugs can be replaced on many switches. We'll give you a repair price and a replacement price when both make sense.
How much does transfer switch replacement cost?
It depends on amperage, residential or commercial, indoor or outdoor, service-entrance rating, and how much wiring changes. We give a written quote after we see the switch.
